serotonin

seritonin's molecular structure

serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter that also functions as a hormone. it is used in memory, appetite, mood, etc. and not having enough causes things like depression, anxiety, mania, and other health conditions.

history

serotonin was discovered around 1930 by scientist dr. erspamer, who was interested in learning about the smooth skin contraction of animals like mollusks and rabbits. one substance that interested him was found in the cell of the gut. he named it enteramine and continued research on skin for several years.
since his discovery, he went on to classify and find more biologically important molocules; such as bombesin, several opiates and a variety of neuropeptides which also can be taken from amphibians.

structure

i have no idea what the structure's words mean so i cited it from an article. hope it's reliable!
